This book explains what happens in our bodies and minds when we experience trauma. It also shows how the wisdom of the body helps us overcome trauma and how we can enjoy life to the fullest again.

What is trauma?

Trauma is a wound. Our psyche, our soul, can be injured just as much as our body. Trauma is a breach of the protective barrier against excessive stimuli. Therefore, trauma resides in the nervous system, not the event itself. It leads to a sense of overwhelming fear, overwhelming helplessness, and terror.

Impact of trauma

Trauma is a common occurrence. It negatively impacts our attitudes and behaviors, leads to addictions, and complicates decision-making. It impacts family life and interpersonal relationships. It can also cause physical pain and serious illness. But trauma doesn't have to be a lifelong sentence! It can be overcome.

The role of the reader

The author, Peter Levine, has enormous confidence in the reader, as he emphasized once again in a special foreword he wrote for the Polish edition: "I am convinced that we possess the resources that will allow us to free ourselves from trauma. This book helps us discover these resources, become aware of them, and utilize them effectively."

Somatic approach

The path leads through the body. We simply need to trust the body's wisdom and utilize its innate self-healing abilities: its internal capacity to self-regulate in states of over-arousal and overly intense emotions.

For whom?

The book is suitable for both independent work and for joint work with a therapist, as well as a basis for trauma therapy workshops.

Incentive

The 12-step trauma recovery program allows you to begin a healing process on day one that will, over time, help you free your body and mind from the negative symptoms of trauma.
